Lunar Tidal Deformation Induces Fractional Frequency Shifts in High-Precision Moon Clocks

What Was Observed (Empirical Data)
Using Keplerian expansion modeling for an elliptical lunar orbit, researchers calculated the fractional frequency shift (FFS) caused by the lunar tidal response (LTR) between clocks at different lunar coordinates down to the 10^-18 level. The model shows that longitude differences alter both the amplitude and phase of the tidal frequency shift, while latitude differences affect only the amplitude. Between a clock on the lunar surface and one on Earth, the lunar tidal response introduces a drift of -5.68 x 10^-7 microseconds per day.
The Reality Check (Anti-Hype Analysis)
This study is a theoretical calculation rather than a physical measurement from hardware currently deployed on the Moon. The effect is tiny, at roughly half a picosecond per day, which has zero impact on standard spacecraft navigation and only becomes relevant when synchronizing next-generation optical clocks operating near the 10^-18 stability threshold.
