Seasonal Orographic Water-Ice Cloud Observed Extending Across Mars

What Was Observed (Empirical Data)
Orbital imaging captures the Arsia Mons Elongated Cloud (AMEC), a recurring plume of water-ice crystals stretching up to 1,800 kilometers downwind from the Arsia Mons volcano in the Martian southern hemisphere. The feature forms daily during southern spring and summer when dense morning winds are forced upward along the western slope of the shield volcano, cooling rapidly at high altitude.
The Reality Check (Anti-Hype Analysis)
Despite its visual similarity to a volcanic ash plume in orbital photographs, this cloud is strictly a meteorological phenomenon driven by topography and atmospheric circulation. It does not indicate active volcanism, outgassing, or subsurface hydrothermal activity on Mars.
