Multi-Wavelength Imaging Data of the M16 Eagle Nebula Mapped to Audible Frequencies

What Was Observed (Empirical Data)
Archival optical and X-ray imaging data of the Eagle Nebula (M16) Pillars of Creation, captured by the Hubble Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory, have been algorithmically translated into an audio representation. In this sonification, horizontal spatial position corresponds to time, vertical position maps to musical pitch, and light intensity controls volume across distinct instrumental tracks for optical and X-ray wavelengths. The underlying astronomical data capture photoevaporating columns of cool molecular hydrogen gas and dust alongside high-energy X-ray emissions from young stellar objects.
The Reality Check (Anti-Hype Analysis)
This release represents an outreach-focused data visualization and accessibility translation rather than a new physical observation or acoustic detection. Sound waves cannot propagate through the near-vacuum of interstellar space; the audio is an arbitrary human-assigned mapping of electromagnetic radiation to sound frequencies. No new astrophysical properties, star formation rates, or structural dynamics within M16 were measured in this process.
