High-Resolution Spectroscopy Confirms Low-Frequency Radio Emitter TYC 2834-1385-1 as a BY Draconis Binary

What Was Observed (Empirical Data)
Using high-resolution (R=85,000) optical spectroscopy from the HERMES spectrograph on the Mercator Telescope, researchers identified the radio source TYC 2834-1385-1 as a double-lined spectroscopic binary. Radial velocity tracking of metallic absorption and Ca II H and K lines established an orbital period of 3.601 ± 0.002 days with nearly identical semi-amplitudes for both stellar components. The presence of pronounced Ca II emission supports a preliminary classification of two late-G or early-K main-sequence dwarf stars in a chromospherically active system.
The Reality Check (Anti-Hype Analysis)
The circularly polarized radio emission does not signify exotic physics, compact remnants, or artificial signals, but is instead the standard outcome of magnetic and plasma processes driven by rapid tidal synchronization in close stellar pairs. The spectroscopic classification remains preliminary at K0V and describes a well-understood class of BY Draconis variables rather than a novel astrophysical phenomenon.
