Archival Photometry Suggests ~62-Day Orbital Period for Be Star-White Dwarf Nova FQ Circinus

What Was Observed (Empirical Data)
Researchers analyzed archival optical photometry from the OGLE and ASAS-SN surveys to re-evaluate the periodicity of the classical nova FQ Circinus, a binary system containing a Be star donor and a white dwarf. Rather than confirming the previously reported ~2.04-day orbital period, the combined data reveal significant flux modulation on a timescale of 50 to 60 days, pointing toward an orbital period near 62 days. The shorter 1.02-day photometric signal is reinterpreted as non-radial pulsations intrinsic to the Be star rather than orbital motion.
The Reality Check (Anti-Hype Analysis)
This study is a reanalysis of archival light curves that revises the orbital parameters and classification of a known stellar binary, not the discovery of a new astrophysical phenomenon. The proposed ~62-day orbital period and the pulsation nature of the 1.02-day signal remain interpretations of photometric modulations that require radial velocity spectroscopy for definitive confirmation. Furthermore, questioning its High Mass Cataclysmic Variable (HMCV) label simply aligns the system with typical wide-orbit Be-white dwarf binaries rather than overturning binary evolution models.
